Review – Simmer Down, Shiraz Hempstock – Bands on Demand
Shiraz Hempstock is a 17 year old singer songwriter based in Worcestershire, UK. Her distinctive voice and unique style has opened up many an opportunity both on stage and in the studio.
Andrew Marston of BBC Introducing Hereford & Worcester said that her “Amy Winehouse- esque vocal maturity makes her one of the newest shining lights on the local scene.”
Her latest track, Simmer Down is a smoky, RnB beat down with a Corinne Bailey Rae vibe with a little sprinkling of Black Eyed Peas former lead Fergie.

The track is a definite head-nodder, that opens strongly and has a great vocal melody and is very well arranged with a gentle backing that enhances the beautiful vocal without ever interfering. There is no doubting that this is a vocal track and the production is very sensitive to that, very restrained and well balanced.
It is difficult to believe that Shiraz Hempstock is so young. If you didn’t know, you can picture a mature woman in smoky bar in Charleston or Atlanta singing into a vintage mic. But no, a young woman at the doorstep of a great career.
